Our history: exploring a new kind of funding
When the Adventure Capital Fund was launched in December 2002 our aim was to test whether venture capitalist-style funding could succeed for community enterprises.

We knew that ambitious community-based enterprises struggled for funding, with grants thin on the ground and commercial sector loans difficult and costly to obtain.

Our first £2 million was used to test whether our unique combination of loans, grants and support could work for community enterprises.

In our first few years, the Adventure Capital Fund made more than £9m of investments. The success of the early stages led to additional investment funds and we began to grow in size and influence.

Today, the Adventure Capital Fund is looking forward to our exciting future – a future that builds on the successes of our early years.
